What you will do

In 2025 NZDF will be operating from a new information platform providing our people with secure access to accurate timely and relevant information to enable effective decision making.
To support the realisation of this outcome, NZDF has embarked on a journey to Digital NZDF and is currently developing organisational-wide foundational information capability (people, process, technology) that delivers the Information Vision of ‘The right information, in the right place and at the right time to enable effective Outcomes'.  To achieve this we must transform our ways of working and behaviours to move from our paper focused past to genuinely working digital by default.
You will be participating in a unique opportunity to deliver transformational change in an organisation that has the breadth and diversity of services and capabilities to be considered a mini New Zealand.

What we need

We are looking for a talented Director Information Lifecycle Management to lead a small practice of experts within the Knowledge and Information Management Directorate. 
You won't be daunted by the audacious challenge of imagining, creating and delivering Digital NZDF.  You love being an influencer and are comfortable working with the fluidity and uncertainty that comes with delivering transformational change.

You have demonstrated practice expertise and a deep understanding of the intent of records management and the importance of maintaining guardianship of information that matters to both NZDF and New Zealand so it's available when someone needs it.  This understanding is combined with your passion for utilising emerging digital technologies to reimagine information lifecycle management so that it's fit for purpose now and will continue to evolve to meet future needs. You know that records management goes way beyond the realm of documents and have experience in designing and delivering information lifecycle management solutions (people, process and technology) in large complex environments. You have the stakeholder management skills and experience to take the organisation on the journey of transformational change this requires.

The Knowledge and Information Management Directorate is NZDF's centre of information management excellence that leads and facilitates effective management and exploitation of NZDF's information asset.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
