Job Description

What you will do
The mission planning systems technician is a recognised senior subject matter expert for the mission planning systems and deployable components, and is responsible for the management of the deployable MPS's and supporting systems for aircraft based at RNZAF Base Auckland. The mission planning technician also provides support to the mission planning system manager's input into the formulation of policy.
What we need
Essential requirements for this role include proven skills in using spatial data and superior knowledge of its integration within geospatial applications; its storage and management within geodatabases and geodatabase driven applications. You will also need to have sound knowledge of geospatial products, reference material and standards, be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages, have a good knowledge of IT systems and experience in basic scripting languages.
We are seeking a person with a strong understanding of airworthiness principles and quality assurance (QA) processes, a good knowledge of security principles, policy and legal requirements and analytical and research skills. Mission planning experience would be of benefit.
As the NZDF adopts new mission planning systems it's important that there is a focus on continuous improvement therefore initiative and forward thinking are important factors in this position. You are a confident communicator who is able to put your ideas forward; building strong relationships with GNZ, the flying squadrons and the wider organisation will assist you in being recognised as the SME in mission planning systems.
A tertiary qualification in Information Management is highly desirable.

No 230 (Mission Support) Squadron is responsible for providing fused intelligence product to NZDF organisations and Government departments. 230 SQN also provides the RNZAF with deployed communications information systems support.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
