What you will do
We are seeking a friendly and professional person to join us as a front of house staff member within our Public Programmes Team. In this role you will meet, greet and interact with visitors and ensure all visitors have a safe and positive museum experience.  You will be part of a team that assists in the delivery of the museum's public programmes and events, such as our popular holiday activities and guided tours. You will process sales at the Museum Shop.
What we need
If you have excellent communication skills and love to interact with customers, have an interest and /or experience in the tourism or museum sector and want to be part of our team, then we would like to hear from you.

The Navy Museum exists to inspire pride in being a New Zealander and for visitors to our country to understand why that is so. 

You will be required to work on weekends.

The National Museum of the Royal New Zealand Navy Te Waka Huia O Te Taua Moana O Aotearoa (Navy Museum) fulfils the role of New Zealand's national museum for the Navy and is the national repository for the nation's naval heritage collection.

The Navy Museum's mission is to gather, protect and share the Navy's memory and stories past, present and future, to inform and inspire our Sailors, our naval community and all New Zealanders.

The purpose of the Navy Museum is through our collections tell the stories of New Zealand's naval culture, heritage and people in a way that educates and informs the Museums real and virtual visitors of our navy's contribution to the development of New Zealand, New Zealand's identity and the peace security and prosperity that we all enjoy.
In addition the Navy Museum provides a primary place of connection between the public and the Navy. As such the Museum is critical tool for the Navy in terms of reputation, communications, public relations and recruiting.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
