What you will do
As Communications Advisor, you will directly enhance the reputation and identity of Defence Estate and Infrastructure (DEI) internally and externally, while maintaining strong links with Defence Public Affairs. You will ensure all internal and external communication is engaging, accessible and well-presented across NZDF's various communications channels.

Utilising a variety of web based, print and media platforms, you'll use a variety of means to communicate across NZDF. This includes a weekly update from the Head of DEI, a monthly newsletter and the production of an annual ‘Look Book' profiling the progress of the New Zealand Defence Force Estate Regeneration Programme as it takes shape. 
What we need
You'll be a motivated self-starter with a minimum of 2-3 years' experience in public relations, corporate communications or a related field. You'll possess a sound understanding of communication planning and processes and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experienced in delivering tactical communications plans, you are skilled in decision making, have good judgement and the ability to be flexible and adaptive to changing needs.  Effective workload management skills and a high level of computer literacy with Microsoft applications will also be valuable. A qualification in journalism, public relations, communications or a related discipline is desirable as well as proven experience engaging successfully with the media.  
Who we are
NZDF is undertaking a major regeneration programme developing the Defence Estate in order to achieve our overarching aim of delivering an integrated Defence Force. The Defence Estate is where our personnel live, work and train and comprises of 81,000ha of land, property and infrastructure assets valued at $4.7bn.
As a team, Defence Estate and Infrastructure is responsible for developing and maintaining these assets to support military capabilities and outcomes. Our purpose is to deliver and manage a high quality, sustainable estate that supports our people now and in the future. Our Defence Estate Regeneration Programme will ensure continued development and investment across our nine camps and bases, that will deliver an Estate fit for the 21st century.  This is one of New Zealand's largest regeneration and development programmes.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
