Job Description

What you will do
 
As the Registered Nurse within the Youth Development Unit (YDU) you'll accurately assess health, manage or refer course participants and staff when required, provide nursing support and triage of patients, and advise on and write policy for YDU.
 
What we need

An experienced Registered Nurse with a current APC who shows commitment to the provision of primary healthcare, has a high level of competency in nursing procedures and robust knowledge of youth mental health, drug/substance abuse and associated health issues.
 
You'll be experienced in primary health care and/or emergency department care, have previously worked with a diverse range of youth from varied cultural backgrounds, and have detailed understanding of the code of health and disability services. You'll be a strong communicator, have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills as well as strengths in relationship building and relating to others.  
 You'll also be required to complete YDU coursing outside of the Wellington Region and will be “on call” for the duration of the courses.
 
Please note: If selected for interview you will be required to provide certified copies of your nursing qualifications including your practicing/ registration certificate and a statement of good standing.

The Youth Development Unit (YDU), which is an initiative created as part of the Government ‘Fresh Start' youth policy, provides youth training programmes to young New Zealander's under an arrangement with several other Government agencies. The Youth Development Unit provides young people (13 – 25 years) with a range of comprehensive programmes designed to enable course participants to progress into job placement, trade training, further education and re-engagement in local communities.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
