Job Description

What you will do
 
As Principal Advisor, you will lead the human related research function for the NZDF. You will be responsible for setting the research work programme and ensuring the delivery of outcomes. As an experienced researcher, you will have exceptional report writing ability.
 
You will Head the Ethics Committee, providing advice on ethical and best practice research. You will provide expert advice to the NZDF on issues related to the design and conduct of research, develop standards and policies to ensure quality assurance, and peer review of research.
 
What we need
 
Our ideal candidate will have a strategic outlook, with demonstrated success in research in a relevant field and expertise in the provision of advice, preferably within a public sector environment. You will have quantitative analysis skills, including using statistical packages and you will have qualitative analysis skills, including the ability to conduct focus groups and interviews.
 
You will be versatile, adaptable and able to set objectives and achieve outcomes. We are looking for someone with management and leadership experience and a relevant masters or doctoral degree.
 
Who we are
 
The Directorate of HR Policy, Remuneration and Research is responsible for developing strategic remuneration, benefit and HR policy direction for the NZDF with the support of effective organisational research input and support. The directorate develops and delivers its work collaboratively with the benefit of a strong military and wider organisational input and with the presence of an organisational research team which delivers relevant information to support people related decisions.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
