Job Description

What you will do
In this role you will provide specialist technical advice, supervision and management specific to the maintenance and support of the SH-2G(I) helicopter avionics system.  As the subject matter expert, you will provide critical input into technical troubleshooting of complex avionics faults, provide technical advice for technicians and engineers, technical project management, aircrew and technician system training development, specialist testing and repair capability development, quality assurance management, and technical supervision and management to optimise the SH-2G(I) helicopter availability and reduce fleet costs.

What we need
We are seeking a person with significant experience in the aviation industry as an avionics engineer. You have sound technical and operational knowledge including OEM recommended maintenance practices and procedures.  Experience supporting the Kaman SH-2G(A) or SH-2G(I) helicopter type is highly desirable.
You will self-manage and self-motivate, actively seizing problems and work on them, developing solutions through to implementation and flight testing. Utilising your extensive knowledge and experience of the SH-2G(I), you will lead resolution of avionics systems faults which fall outside the normal capabilities of RNZAF avionics technicians and standard maintenance manual data to reduce aircraft downtime and maximise capability availability.
You will take responsibility for the management of projects including self-initiated projects (including leading a project team) towards improving maintainability and availability of Seasprite helicopters, and improving technical guidance, troubleshooting procedures and maintenance procedures. You will be joining a collaborative and diverse team with a range of experience from first day in the unit to forty plus years of knowledge and experience.
This is a leadership role where you will not only be sharing your own expertise but be responsible for the supervision of junior staff for normal day-to-day maintenance and senior staff attempting new procedures where, through your extensive experience and specific system knowledge, you are the avionics subject matter expert on the Unit. As a seasoned avionics engineer you are resilient and adaptable to change and setbacks.
A tertiary engineering qualification or the equivalent military training is essential.
