Job Description

What you will do
As Senior Advisor Diversity and Inclusion (D & I), you will provide advice across the organisation, develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, be involved in developing and delivering the D & I programme of work, contribute to the leadership and expertise of the directorate via your own knowledge and research, support change management and develop best practice policies, processes and resources and contribute to a continuous improvement culture.
You will be working on programmes across the NZDF across a number of diversity and inclusion initiatives relating to gender, biculturalism, multiculturalism, LGBT+, and OP RESPECT as required. With your strong relationship skills you will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to promote and deliver diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Additionally, you will contribute to NZDF personnel knowledge base through writing and delivering presentations that promote awareness and understanding of D & I; its strategic imperative for NZDF, what inclusive practices look like, and D & I's contribution to NZDF's culture of a professional and respectful working environment.
What we need

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate an aptitude and interest in matters relating to diversity and inclusion. You need to show a willingness and understanding to take people on a journey to influence cultural change, especially in such a large and diverse organisation as ours.
You need to not be afraid to challenge attitudes or existing ways of working but encourage new/innovative methods and approaches.
Experience working in the Diversity & Inclusion field (or related field) is desirable, as is a related qualification. You will need to have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and excellent verbal and written communication /presentation skills.

The Directorate of Diversity & Inclusion is responsible for supporting the establishment and maintenance of a more diverse and inclusive NZDF and for developing and promoting the overall strategic direction of diversity & inclusion in the NZDF.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
