Job Description

What you will do
The Medical Officer requires high level interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships.  Medical Officers work as part of the multidisciplinary team including Nursing, Administration, Social Workers, Recovery Coordinator, Command and Military Personnel.  As part of the NZDF Health team, you will be providing acute, chronic and occupational medical services to regular NZDF personnel.

The Defence Health Centre in Trentham is both a health delivery and training environment for doctors, nurses and medics, and as such would provide opportunities for the individual to become involved in developing, mentoring and educating other practitioners. Confidence with navigating through a rapidly changing environment using complex systems is essential.  The desire to be a team player and make a difference is critical to the success of the applicant.
It is essential that you hold a current NZMC Registration and desirable that you have Practising Certificate Vocational Scope - General Practice, or Urgent Care Medicine, or Occupational Medicine. 
Please note: If selected for interview you will be required to provide certified copies of your medical qualifications including your practicing/ registration certificate and a statement of good standing.

The NZDF Force Health Organisation is responsible for the provision of health services to NZDF military personnel in the Central Region and we are looking for civilian doctors to join the team to provide primary healthcare, occupational and preventive medicine to NZDF personnel, clinical leadership and training.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
