Job Description

What you will do       
The Senior Technical Security Advisor provides subject matter expertise to develop and deliver key NZDF technical programmes. In this senior role, you will also supervise, mentor, coach and develop direct reports.
The key responsibilities of this role are:
  • managing the installation of technical security systems;
  • providing defence technical security services (including compliance & verification) and products;
  • ensuring the protection of classified material and controlled materiel;
  • educating on senior subject matter knowledge to both customers and stakeholders;
  • preparing, managing and providing reporting on annual budgets.
You will also design, certify and audit electronic security systems installed by commercial providers against Defence policy and standard.

What we need
We are looking for someone with the right attitude and technical understanding required to do this role.  You will need to have proven communication and relationship management skills to be able to understand on a technical level to translate to every level.

As this role is Senior, you would need to have a minimum of 10 years' experience in a similar role, as well as leadership / coaching skills within a working environment.  You'll also need to be able to travel, as required, to conduct security inspections, installations or security system design or reconfiguration across NZDF locations.  

Ideally you will be qualified in; TECOM Challenger technician course, CCTV and hold an Electrical Service Technician Certificate or equivalent.

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
