Job Description

What you will do

Provide, operate and maintain ‘best practice' health and safety processes and systems for Defence Estate Construction, Planned Maintenance Programme and Facility Management activities across regional camps and bases. You'll provide health and safety advice and guidance in order to promote excellence and maximise the Defence Estate performance through compliance, communication and continuous improvement of the health and safety systems.

You'll promote and actively foster positive health and safety behaviours by encouraging feedback on policies, initiatives, operating procedures, and guidelines and activity working with Estate Delivery Managers, Project Managers, Contractors and support staff to find solutions using “Prevention Principles”. You'll also lead and provide investigative support to serious incidents and ensure that learnings are communicated and implement to reduce harm in the work place.

What we need

To be successful in the role, you must have 10 years + experience in health and safety and have first-hand knowledge of safety management with a strong focus in the construction industry. 

You will be required you to have in-depth knowledge of contemporary NZ workplace safety legislation and regulatory requirements, along with a working knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Building Act 2004, The Resource Management Act 1991 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

You'll champion excellence in health and safety, policy, systems, process and compliance. You will set and maintain a high standard of quality assurance, be innovative and have experience in the development and implementation of safety policy, frameworks and operational process documentation.

Our ideal candidate has experience with implementation, monitoring, management and delivery of health and safety management outcomes for a significant organisation.

You'll be skilled in relationship development and communication, be able to negotiate and influence others to get to a desirable outcome, as well as have the ability to work in a fast-paced and variable environment.

Your relevant qualifications in health & safety and project management will set you up for success in this position, as will qualifications and experience in causal investigations.

This role is based out of LInton, the successful candidate will work between Linton, Waiouru Military Camps and Ohakea Air Base.

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
