Job Description

What you will do

This is your opportunity to become the Defence Intelligence expert on a topic related to international defence and security. Senior officials and Ministers will rely on your intelligence assessments, and you will be trusted to verbally brief them on a regular basis, drawing on information from a range of sources. You will be supported to lead the use of analytical tradecraft both in the NZDF and the wider intelligence community. You will support the development of entry-level and intermediate analysts through coaching and analytical-peer-partnering.

As part of your professional and personal development, you will have the opportunity to travel overseas for conferences, familiarisation visits, short-term postings and secondments. These, combined with training opportunities both on- and off-shore, are part of our commitment to our analyst progression programme.

What we need

To be successful in this role, you will have worked as an analyst looking at international and security matters for at least three years.

You will also have:

  • Outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal;
  • The ability to establish, influence and capitalise on effective relationships and networks;
  • A commitment to improving systems and processes;
  • Integrity in handling sensitive information.

Who we are

The Strategic Intelligence Branch is a unique and inclusive blend of civilian and military intelligence analysts, including four close-knit, regionally focused teams. We deliver insights, forecasts and warnings related to global activities and trends that affect NZDF and Ministry of Defence activities and decision-making.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Why Us

By joining our team you are making a great career decision.  A recent staff satisfaction survey highlighted why:

  • Be part of an effective team with freedom and flexibility to do my job
  • Able to maintain a balance between my personal and working life
  • Inspired to go the extra mile to help NZDF succeed.

Check out the great benefits for you and your family including $300,000 life insurance and income protection, fully funded by the NZDF.

The maintenance of a security clearance, required for this role, will open up a wide range of employment opportunities across New Zealand's national security workforce.

The total fixed remuneration band for this position is $80,023 to $98,852 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution.
