Job Description

What you will do
This is your opportunity to become a Defence Intelligence expert on space-related security issues. You will combine your knowledge of science or engineering with multiple sources of intelligence to evaluate the use of the space environment, space-based systems and defence-related capabilities. Senior officials and Ministers will rely on your intelligence assessments, and you will be trusted to verbally brief them on a regular basis, drawing on information from a range of sources.
As part of your professional and personal development, you will have the opportunity to travel overseas for conferences, familiarisation visits, short-term postings and secondments. These, combined with training opportunities both on- and off-shore, are part of our commitment to our analyst progression programme.
You will be employed as a generalist intelligence analyst and may be required to rotate into other analytical areas to support the dynamic intelligence requirements of the NZDF.
What we need

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong interest in international affairs and defence matters with demonstrated research and analytical skills.

You will also have:

  • Effective communication skills – both written and verbal;
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and networks;
  • Integrity in handling sensitive information;
  • A science or engineering postgraduate qualification.

Please note: As part of the selection process you will attend an assessment centre in the Wellington region on Friday, 11 October 2019 (at your own cost). More detail will be provided to those who are requested to attend.
