Job Description

What you will do

This position ensures that effective obsolescence management practices are applied to RNZAF platforms and systems, to minimise the loss of operational capability, due to obsolescence. You will provide subject matter expertise on aeronautical configuration management and technical support relating to obsolescence issues with the Auckland based fleets. The position staffs technical administration, as mandated under the NZDF's technical airworthiness framework and encompasses some aspects of fleet management.

What we need

We are seeking a person with significant technical experience from within aeronautical engineering. Included in this is skills and knowledge in obsolescence management for aircraft components and systems, knowledge of systems engineering and systems safety analysis principles and practises. Also an understanding of technical policy and procedures and knowledge of aircraft and equipment maintenance requirements. You will also bring some good personnel management skills to this role.

In terms of qualifications we are ideally looking for an advanced Trade Training equivalent to NZCEA level 5, Computer Maintenance Management System Training or equivalent, Aeronautical Maintenance Supervisors Course or similar, recognised military or aerospace industry qualification or similar, project and risk management training.

The Capability Sustainment Team provides specialist advice to the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation, Maintenance Support Squadron, Material Support Wing and No. 5, 6, 40 and Aircraft Maintenance Squadrons to assist in their decision making related to obsolescence risk management of rotable items for NZDF aircraft.

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
