Job Description

What you will do 

Within this role you will be producing high quality Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) data and products to enable GNZ to achieve its mission and outputs.
We are seeking a person who is a visual thinker, whose individual efforts will contribute to the success of a dynamic team.

You will also be:

  • Driven and focused, with keen analytical skills;
  • Up to date on current affairs;
  • Willing to learn;
  • An experienced user of GIS applications, such as the ESRI Arcmap suite.

You will effectively manage, analyse and communicate the results of geospatial analysis to customers, as well as have the ability to extract critical information from various imagery types for intelligence capability.

What we need

Your analytical capability ensures your attention to detail and accuracy is excellent. You will have very strong communication skills allowing you to work with a wide range of people across the whole organisation and wider government. Time management, planning and organising are strengths of yours, ensuring you are always prepared for what the day may bring.  

A tertiary qualification in Geospatial Information Systems or remote sensing would be highly desirable.

You will be joining a small friendly team with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. This is interesting work which can lead you into a rewarding career within the New Zealand intelligence community.  You will get to experience working with a wide range of customers and have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert. 

Who we are

GEOINT New Zealand's (GNZ) role is to provide imagery and geospatial intelligence to NZDF, supporting policy, planning, operations and training in order to meet NZDF outputs. GNZ is also the national and international lead for Geospatial Intelligence in New Zealand, providing imagery and geospatial intelligence to government departments and other customers.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last fifteen years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last fifteen years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
