Job Description

What you will do
 
In this 12-month fixed term position you will provide the Future Maritime Support Construct (FMSC) team with high quality project management support and coordination. You will be responsible for ensuring the team are enabled to deliver their outputs to time, cost and quality by providing effective support around the project delivery process (including the technical and commercial work streams), planning and administration. Additionally you will be responsible for and involved in:

  • Building and maintaining constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • The coordination and support of activities across the FMSC and its Governance Boards, including facilitating Workshops and presentations to ensure they are successful;
  • Supporting the FMSC Project Delivery Lead to produce successful outcomes for the whole FMSC team, including developing and maintaining a Delivery Plan for the FMSC project.

What we need

To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter with an in-depth understanding of project environments. You will be comfortable in delivering a full range of coordination support to ensure outputs are delivered on time and within scope. You will be excellent at keeping to timelines and understand the importance of detail and quality. To hit the ground running you will also need:

  • Prior experience working in a complex project environment and ideally a knowledge of project management processes and methodologies;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate across varying levels of an organisation;
  • The knowledge and ability to obtain, organise and analyse information;
  • An awareness or exposure to budgeting, planning and scheduling tools.

Ideally you will have:

  • A working knowledge of project management tools and methodologies including (but not limited to) PRINCE2 or PMI / PMBOK);
  • The ability to travel domestically up to once every 6 weeks.

The Future Maritime Support Construct (FMSC) is a multi-disciplinary team that is developing a new technical support model for the RNZN that is outcome focused to ensure the Naval Fleet (currently comprising 11 ships) is enduringly Ready, Reliable and Relevant. The FMSC comprises three work streams – Delivery, Technical and Commercial, and currently has 17 team members. Most of these are based in Wellington but some personnel are also located remotely (including Auckland and Tauranga). The team comprises a mixture of NZDF uniformed and civilian employees plus some personnel seconded from other organisations.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
