Job Description

What you will do

In this 12-month fixed term position you will provide the Future Maritime Support Construct (FMSC) team with high quality communications advisor and document writing support. You will be responsible for generating and managing the FMSC Communications Plan and supporting the whole FMSC team (including the technical and commercial work streams).

Additionally you will be responsible for and involved in:

  • Building and maintaining constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Providing the Delivery Lead and FMSC Director with strong and adaptable communication strategies and advice, to protect and enhance the reputation of the FMSC;
  • Drafting and development of FMSC project and procurement documentation that meets internal requirements and standards, and is appropriate for a supplier audience.

What we need
 
To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter with an in-depth understanding of communications for project environments operating in a large, diverse organisation. You will also be comfortable in writing, editing and formatting complex technical documents with a plethora of annexes and supporting information into a coherent package, in addition to crafting regular stakeholder updates that are tailored to a range of audiences.
 
You will be excellent at being proactive, engaging with stakeholders and understand the importance of relationship management, detail and quality. To hit the ground running you will also need:

  • A general comprehension of the Better Business Case approach to government procurement, and experience in managing stakeholder communications across all levels, internal and external to the organisation;
  • The ability to visually communicate complex organisational objectives, structures and themes in an engaging, easy to understand and graphically compelling way;
  • At least 3 and preferably 6 years' experience as a Communications Advisor post qualification, preferably within a Government Department and ideally with involvement in major procurement projects.

Ideally you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification as a Communications Advisor;
  • The ability to travel domestically up to once every 6 weeks.

The Future Maritime Support Construct (FMSC) is a multi-disciplinary team that is developing a new technical support model for the RNZN that is outcome focused to ensure the Naval Fleet (currently comprising 11 ships) is enduringly Ready, Reliable and Relevant. The FMSC comprises three work streams – Delivery, Technical and Commercial, and currently has 17 team members. Most of these are based in Wellington but some personnel are also located remotely (including Auckland and Tauranga). The team comprises a mixture of NZDF uniformed and civilian employees plus some personnel seconded from other organisations.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
