What you will do

An exciting opportunity has emerged to join our new P3O and help lead the way as we transform NZDF's complex ICT operations and evolve into a modern, cloud-based shared information technology platform. 

As a Portfolio Advisor known here as Investment Case Benefits Advisor reporting to the Portfolio Manager within our Communications and Information Systems (CIS) Branch, you'll be responsible for developing project and programme business cases. You will also develop investment case and benefits management plans and contribute to fostering an outcomes focussed culture. 

You will work to ensure business cases are focussed, consistent and robust. You will also ensure that inputs to investment and business case are developed to a standard that supports decision making. Additionally, you will track and measure benefits in line with NZDF's Benefits Management Framework. 

You will work with the Portfolio Manager to evolve portfolio practices to enable agile delivery with an emphasis on flow to value. 

What we need

This is a relationship role with an emphasis on clear communication and stakeholder management skills.   We would like to hear from you if you have experience in a similar role and enjoy the opportunity to grow and learn within an evolving environment.  

In particular you will have: 

  •     Demonstrable experience in business case development, writing and approval;
  •     Demonstrable experience in the development of Investment Logic Maps (ILM) and benefits management plans;
  •     A confident approach to communication with an ability to be succinct;
  •     Experience or exposure to an agile delivery environment;
  •     The flexibility to adapt the way you work;
  •     Excellent written communication skills with an eye for detail.

Please note that you must be able and willing to travel within New Zealand and overseas if required.

The full remuneration band for this position is $80,023 to $98,852 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution.  We expect to appoint around the midpoint of $89,438; this may be negotiable depending on experience.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
