What you will do

Working within the Strategic Programmes team you will support the Project Director Accommodation, Messing and Dining Modernisation Programme in integrating the work streams required to deliver successful Project and Programme Business Cases. 

As well as updating and monitoring the Programme Business cases you will also:

  • Ensure the whole is coordinated and functioning successfully;
  • Define and manage outputs of the project team and external consultants;
  • Set programming and work streams;
  • Identify and update risks and dependencies;
  • Manage stakeholder communication and relationships.

What we need

You will be a dynamic leader who has the skill to guide your team through exciting projects and period of development within Defence Estate and Infrastructure. You'll ensure high standards of performance, successful outcomes and empower and engage your team to ensure they operate consistently with NZDF's culture and expected behaviours.

Ideally you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • Development of business cases through Treasury's Better Business Case Frame work;
  • Experience in a role leading a major capital project or programme of work;
  • Extensive experience consulting within NZ property and construction industry; 
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Experience within or consulting to Government agencies is beneficial.

Who we are

NZDF is undertaking a major regeneration programme developing the Defence Estate in order to achieve our overarching aim of delivering an integrated Defence Force. The Defence Estate is where our personnel live, work and train and comprises of 81,000ha of land, property and infrastructure assets valued at $4.7bn. 

As a team, Defence Estate and Infrastructure is responsible for developing and maintaining these assets to support military capabilities and outcomes. Our purpose is to deliver and manage a high quality, sustainable estate that supports our people now and in the future. Our Defence Estate Regeneration Programme will ensure continued development and investment across our nine camps and bases that will deliver an Estate fit for the 21st century.  This is one of New Zealand's largest regeneration and development programmes.

The Accommodation, Messing and Dining Modernisation (AMDM) Programme is currently developing a Detailed Business Case following the Treasury's Better Business Case framework. The Detailed Business Case is for a pilot project within the programme that will provide the framework for the successful delivery of the AMDM Programme taking into account NZDFs strategic and operational priorities.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • Most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five (5) years, OR

  • Is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one of more of the following countries for the last five (5) years; either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level. 

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
