What you will do

The purpose of the HQ NZDF Executive Services Manager position is to provide leadership and management of the HQ NZDF office located at Defence House in Wellington.  The role will oversee the planning, development and operation of the Headquarters office workspace to ensure it supports business results, quality and continuity of service, and optimises the functionality and capability of the building and the site itself.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, Defence Shared Services Group (DSSG) with direct access to the Executive Officer, Office of the Chief of Defence Force (OCDF), the Executive Services Manager will lead office services, reception services, and site Health and Safety management to deliver high levels of customer service linked with HQNZDF executive leadership intent. You'll also be the lead point of contact for the HQNZDF Chief of Staff and Facilities Management team for the emergency management planning, response, resilience and business continuity for HQ NZDF in order to protect staff and premises and restore services as soon as possible. 

What we need

The Executive Services Manager will have a broad range of skills including leadership, property and services support experience, commercial experience, relationship management, communications, governance, ICT and business continuity.

You'll be flexible, adaptable and pragmatic.  Your high level of business acumen and experience managing office spaces and facilities in a complex environment will be beneficial to your application, as will your knowledge of incident and emergency management practices.  Your ability to influence others, strong customer focus and understanding of risk management are vital to your success in the role, as well as your understanding of public sector systems and processes.

Who we are

The Defence Shared Services Group (DSSG) is responsible for the effective provision and efficient delivery of a range of shared services activities to the whole of NZDF.  The DSSG is responsible for effective management and service delivery of selected shared service activities to the NZDF. Head Quarters New Zealand Defence Force (HQ NZDF) provides office accommodation and support services for over 2,000 NZDF, Ministry of Defence, and other security agency staff, in multiple business groups and projects across two or more buildings across the Wellington Area.  Efficiently and effectively managing these facilities to support the business requires a shared team approach incorporating Defence Estate, Facilities Management, Shared Services and the executive function present onsite.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
