What you will do
 
As the Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health and Co-Existing Problems, you will utilise your evidence-based nursing knowledge and judgement to assess mental health and co existing problems related needs of military personnel. You will provide care and advice that supports individuals and Command to manage their overall health and well-being.
Within this role you will hold a caseload, as determined by service need and will provide active collaboration, planning and liaison with individuals, their families/whānau, community (including Command), Medical Officers,  MDT, and any other care providers, including DHBs and private providers. 
 
This is a new role that operates on a regional basis working between Devonport and Whenuapai. The role is for a two year fixed term period which gives you the opportunity to own this role and make a tangible difference to those within the Defence community.
 
What we need
 
We are seeking a Registered Nurse with extensive knowledge of mental health and co-existing problems and treatment interventions. You have experience of working within a variety of clinical settings including a community mental health acute setting which enables you to deliver advanced clinical nursing assessment and management. Early Intervention experience will be of benefit.
 
As a Mental Health practitioner you can deliver recognised brief interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.
 
You are a confident communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills which allows you to communicate respectfully, accurately and succinctly with a diverse range of people. These skills are vital in this role as you navigate your way around our multi-faceted and complex organisation. As a clinical professional you understand the value of a team being committed to working collectively and collaboratively in an MDT environment.

As a Registered Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand you hold a current NZ Practising Certificate. Ideally you have or are working towards post graduate certificate/diploma in Speciality Nursing Practice.
Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
 
Low level Security Clearance
  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level. 
If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
