Job Description

  • Lead the Maritime team in the creation, provision and development of Geospatial Maritime Products. 

  • Represent GNZ at National and International meetings and conferences. 

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Maritime Team. 

Support GNZ's mission by providing Geospatial Intelligence products and expertise to NZDF, Government Departments, allied nations and other customers.

What you will do

You will lead a team of GEOINT professionals who produce Maritime-specific Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) analysis and products.   In this role you will provide Maritime Subject Matter Expertise, technical leadership and professional liaison for the provision and production of  geospatial maritime data and products in direct support of NZDF and international partners for Operations, planning and training, and support to other Government Agencies where required.

What we need

We are seeking a person with significant experience in Geospatial Information Systems including:

• Advanced knowledge of GIS software products such as the ESRI Suite, QGIS;
• Highly developed cartographic skills and the ability to create geospatial products;
• Highly developed geospatial analytical skills and the ability to effectively communicate the outcomes of GEOINT analysis;
• Knowledge of the requirements, sources and uses of maritime geospatial data and products in a military environment;
• Knowledge of geospatial hardware, such as scanning and plotting equipment;
• Familiarity with graphics and presentation software, including the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) and Microsoft PowerPoint.

As the team leader, you will be responsible for managing the Maritime Team of three. This includes personal development plans, related HR documentation and esprit de corps within the team for the greater benefit of GNZ.

The ability to build and maintain solid working relationships is key in this role as you will work alongside other NZDF units, other NZ Government and International military agencies during routine day to day activities.

In terms of qualifications a tertiary qualification (Bachelors/Masters/Postgraduate Diploma) in Hydrography, Geospatial Information Systems, Cartography or Remote Sensing (or equivalent experience) is held. [NQF 7 – 8+] is highly desirable.

GEOINT New Zealand's (GNZ) role is to provide imagery and geospatial intelligence to NZDF, supporting policy, planning, operations and training in order to meet NZDF outputs. GNZ is also the national and international lead for Geospatial Intelligence in New Zealand, providing imagery and geospatial intelligence to government departments and other customers.

Higher level Security Clearance

  • Most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last ten (10) years, OR

  • Is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one of more of the following countries for the last ten (10) years; either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
