The purpose of the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) is to promote and protect health and disability services consumers' rights and to facilitate the fair and efficient resolution of complaints relating to the potential infringement of those rights.

As New Zealand's health watchdog, the Commissioner is involved in a wide spectrum of health concerns to ensure accountability in the healthcare system and promote high standards of care.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

We are seeking an experienced Executive Assistant to provide high‑quality, proactive, and confidential support to the Aged Care Commissioner and the Director of Advocacy.

This is a key support role, enabling senior leaders to operate effectively across a complex portfolio. You will deliver end‑to‑end executive assistance, including diary and email management, meeting coordination, stakeholder engagement, travel and financial administration, and high‑quality secretarial support.

Acting as a trusted point of contact, you will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, internal staff, and external stakeholders. You will manage competing priorities, support effective communication, uphold manaakitanga, and contribute to a collaborative and responsive EA team.

This role suits someone who is organised, professional, and adaptable, and who thrives in a fast‑paced environment.

Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū te haere | What you'll need to be successful

You will bring:

  • Proven experience as an Executive Assistant supporting senior leaders
  • Experience managing senior‑level stakeholder relationships, preferably in the health and/or disability sector
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Sound judgement, discretion, and the ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high‑quality documents
  • High computer literacy and confidence using databases and presentation tools
  • Typing speed of 70 wpm or higher
  • A collaborative, flexible, and service‑focused approach
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to work respectfully with Māori and Aotearoa New Zealand's diverse communities

 

Awhe utu - Salary range

As part of our remuneration framework the base salary range for the role is $72,153 to $90,191 with the actual salary is dependent on skills and experience. Note: KiwiSaver / employer contribution is in additional to your base salary. We offer a range of benefits including:
