  • We have a challenging opportunity to apply your financial analysis and relationship management skills

Opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding environment

The Ministry of Transport advises the Government on the performance of the Transport sector Crown Agencies. We oversee the expenditure of nearly $4 billion per year, and ensure the safety of New Zealand's airspace, maritime sector, and our road and rail networks.

The Governance and Commercial team's core role is to provide stewardship advice to responsible Ministers to support their decision making in relation to Crown entities and other governance structures within the transport sector. The team provides proactive and responsive governance, financial and commercial advice and assessment on matters affecting the transport sector and Crown entities. We also provide commercial expertise to the Ministry - this includes leading funding reviews and monitoring City Rail Link, the Crown's MetService purchase contract and the five Crown Joint Venture airports.

We are looking for a Senior Adviser to support the delivery of the Ministry's governance and accountability responsibilities. You will partner with Ministry leaders and staff to manage governance and accountability requirements to oversee the performance of the four Transport Crown entities, and provide stewardship advice to guide key stakeholders about their respective roles in the transport sector.

We're interested in hearing from candidates who have commercial experience in monitoring risk and the effectiveness of organisations, along with the ability to see the big picture.

You'll apply your financial analysis skills, and be able to evaluate and confidently present key information to a wide range of stakeholders. Success in this role is reliant upon your ability to build strong relationships, and engage with and influence senior leaders.

This is a challenging and busy role so it's essential you are organised and able to work both autonomously and collaborating as part of a team. An appreciation of how the State Sector operates would be useful, and an understanding of economic principles and how Crown entities are governed is desirable.

We are small but busy and collegial team. This role offers variety, development and the opportunity to grow your skill set, and hone and demonstrate your judgement.
