Based at WelTec's Petone site, Whitireia's Porirua site or the Wellington site of both institutions with this to be agreed at appointment and expectation of working at each site, as necessary.

To support the strategic partnership between Whitireia and WelTec the Academic Directorate is responsible for leading, guiding and monitoring academic quality assurance and evaluative activities across the two institutions. In addition, the Academic Directorate ensures that staff have the capability necessary to deliver future-focused approaches to learning design, teaching and assessment to enable our learners to be employment-ready and contribute positively to their communities. The Academic Directorate also has responsibility for building research capability, particularly in areas of applied research that have direct relevance to our teaching programmes.

Based in the Academic Directorate, the appointee will work closely with Heads of Schools, Programme Managers, and academic staff.

The purpose of this position is is to provide guidance and advice to Centres of Learning staff with respect to academic quality assurance to ensure institutional compliance with New Zealand Qualifications Authority and other Central Agency requirements, and directly promote and support self-assessment and evaluative activities by Centres of Learning.

Advisors will be expected to work closely with Senior Advisors to deliver the following functions:

  • Work directly and in partnership with Centres of Learning staff, to provide advice and develop staff knowledge, understanding, competence and confidence in preparation of programme documentation to meet New Zealand Qualifications Authority and other Central Agency requirements and expectations
  • Strengthen staff expertise in, and commitment to, self-assessment and evaluation and promote and support evaluative activities, particularly in relation to delivery of academic programmes and students' learning experience
  • Contribute to, and support, institutional preparation for External Evaluation and Reviews and other external agency audits or reviews
  • Contribute to the maintenance, review, and revision of academic policies and procedures and provide guidance to staff on the application of these to support Centres of Learning to meet performance expectations
  • Monitor implementation of academic policies and procedures, and recommend new areas for development, amendment or deletion as appropriate
  • Provide written and verbal advice to Academic Board, the Programme Committee, Evaluation Committee, Boards of Studies, and Achievement Committees, as may be required

We are looking for a candidate with the following, qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • A graduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in a quality assurance role or similar in the New Zealand tertiary education sector and, or experience in supporting and promoting evaluative activities to enhance teaching quality and improve students' learning experiences
  • Ideally, is familiar with quality assurance management systems, including development of quality assurance policies
  • Knowledge and understanding of the contribution of evaluation to enabling ongoing quality improvement in teaching delivery and responsiveness to students, employers and other stakeholders
  • Experience in working in a complex fast-paced tertiary education environment with a high degree of competence, preferably in the New Zealand ITP sector
  • A committed team player who enjoys working with academic staff and contributing to achieving positive outcomes for students
