Job Description

Fixed-term: full-time position

The Health Research Council is New Zealand's principal funder of health research and at any one time, we manage more than 400 research contracts and have several funding rounds under assessment. Health researchers supported by the HRC work mainly in universities, but also NGOs, Māori and Pacific research organisations, private research institutes and district health boards. The HRC office is based in Auckland.

We are looking for two (2) suitable summer interns to provide temporary assistance for the business operations (data entry, data cleaning, documentation) and research investment & contracts team (peer review activities, data entry and analysis) for ongoing contestable funding rounds, and the strategy and policy team (support for a national priority consultation process and activities to implement the New Zealand Health Research Strategy). The term of the internship runs from early December 2017 to March 2018. Interns will gain experience in working in a government agency, use of custom software, granting processes, peer review and join a network of health researchers.

The HRC will consider tertiary students with at least one years' study in medical and health sciences, competency in health research terminology, excellent English writing skills, experienced in dealing with diverse groups of people and demonstrated work ethic.
