Job Description

Investigating Lawyer (12-month fixed term)

The SFO is a highly specialised government department responsible for serious or complex fraud investigations and prosecutions, which include bribery and corruption. We take pride in the work we do to keep New Zealand safe from financial crime.

We are looking for an investigating lawyer with a current practicing certificate who has five years or more experience as a criminal lawyer.

This is a varied role that combines many responsibilities, including contributing to the investigation strategy of a case, participating in investigations, conducting witness and victim interviews, providing legal opinions to the investigation team and drafting case reports and, where required, charges. You may act as an instructing solicitor which would entail drafting and overseeing the preparation of court documents and appearing as required in Court on preliminary matters and supporting prosecution panel members at trial.

We are looking for someone who is energetic and results driven, intellectually capable of working alongside leading criminal prosecutors, excellent team player and experienced in investigations and litigation. In return we will give you some really fundamental experience in the process surrounding investigating and prosecuting financial crime, bribery and corruption to add to your toolbox.

At the SFO, we recognise that diversity and inclusion is important to our work. We value the unique abilities and perspectives of our employees which allows us to continue to create a supportive environment that meets the needs of our people, our business and the communities where we work. We have a strong workplace culture.
