Mo te tuna - About the role
In joining the Technical Specialist Network, you will bring your expert tax technical knowledge. You will get a broad range of experience in a large organisation with lots of complex and interesting work.
As a Technical Specialist, you will provide end-to-end technical and commercial support and advice services to improve customer experience and long-term compliance. Your ability to take a system-wide view, collaborate across IR to identify development opportunities and build individual and organisational capability are key to the role.
You will also:
- Make complex technical decisions that have strategic significance to support the right outcomes for customers, IR and the government
- Interpret IR's technical position on emerging issues and trends to support the right outcomes for customers, IR and the government
- Identify strategic compliance risks and contribute to the development of policies and strategies to protect the national tax base
- Lead and participate in projects, including cross agency task forces
- Represent IR and the Commissioner at national and international level as a recognised subject matter expert to enhance the national and international tax system
In addition:
Technical Specialist L3 Merger and Acquisitions expert
- Have experience implementing and reviewing cross-border and domestic commercial transactions, including M&A activity, capital and organisational restructuring, and shareholder repatriation
- Possess strong international tax expertise, particularly in applying New Zealand's double tax treaties, withholding tax rules, controlled foreign company and foreign investment fund rules
- Demonstrate strong understanding of the OECD's Base Erosion & Profit Shifting project and its application to New Zealand, including the application of interest limitation, hybrid mismatch, and the Global Anti-Base Erosion (GloBE) rules
As part of this role, you will need to be able to achieve and maintain security clearance through New Zealand Security Intelligence Service.
The salary range for this role is $128,990 to $159,643

- Ability to translate knowledge of customers, business models, and economic circumstances to inform service and product improvement and enhance compliance outcomes
- Ability to commission and use the outputs of rigorous analysis to make complex and/or strategic decisions
- Proactivity in managing or minimising risks and seize opportunities at a strategic/cross-government level
- Ability to effectively impart expert knowledge to raise awareness, educate and uplift the capability of internal and external stakeholders at any level

The Technical Specialist Network is part of CCS-B and provides technical and commercial advice and support to CCS and the rest of IR. We provide coaching and mentoring, and we work with other areas to improve customer experience and long-term compliance.
