Job Description

The Ministry of Transport is the principal transport adviser to the government. We provide policy advice and support to Ministers to improve the performance of New Zealand's transport system and related Crown entities. We also manage the government's investment into transport, provide advice on legislation and represent New Zealand's international interests in maritime and aviation affairs.

It's an exciting time to join the Ministry and the variety of interesting issues we shape may surprise you. From large infrastructure projects and regulating the maritime industry to how transport priorities intersect with the environment or human rights, our legal team works across these areas and many more.

We need an experienced Senior Solicitor to join our highly skilled team to work in partnership with our Ministry Advisers and to provide strategic, high quality legal advice. Ideally you'll come with at least five to eight years experience and be skilled in developing legislation, and/or have some good commercial experience.

You'll have a law degree and have the ability to hold a legal practising certificate and be able to engage with and influence others across a range of disciplines. Whilst not essential, it would be great if you have some government and transport experience, but if not, you'll be a person who easily picks things up along the way!

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to grow your skill set and make a real contribution to New Zealand's transport system.  It is sounds like you and if you are up for a challenge, we'd love to hear from you.
