Job Description

It's not every day a role comes along that allows you to help shape New Zealand's future. But as a Principal Adviser that's exactly what you'll have the opportunity to do.

Can you lead projects and analyse information to move things forward? Then you can make a positive difference to every area of our society.

  • Analyse and develop policy options, and play a role in shaping a vital system
  • Gain broad exposure at the Principal Adviser level - bring your project management and strategy skills

The Ministry of Transport is taking on a new direction - it's not just about roads and rail. Transport affects every area of our society and we need to think in broad terms. In one of our policy roles, you'll advise on how those policies can shape that vital transportation system as a whole.

As a Principal Adviser, you'll be responsible for providing thought leadership and supporting the overall capability of the team as well as the delivery of their key objectives. You'll take a leadership role in cross Ministry and cross government policy projects and establish productive relationships with other transport agencies and the wider government sector.

There's a lot of opportunity here. The Ministry of Transport is a small, collegial agency that lends itself to day-to-day variety. You won't be stuck in an isolated unit; it's important that you gain exposure across the whole sector because of its significance everywhere, from health to economy to environment.

This role is perfect for relationship-builders as you'll work with the public, ministers, and crown entities, and engage with them all to consider the future. You'll receive plenty of support to take ownership of your role.

Join this energetic, motivated agency and make your contribution to New Zealand society, now and in the future.
