Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, high performing Senior Policy Adviser to join our Mobility and Safety team here at the Ministry of Transport.

The Mobility and Safety team is responsible for advice on domestic mobility and safety in the transport system, including leading the development of a new road safety strategy for New Zealand. Background in road safety, mobility or accessibility is desirable but not essential. Most important is your ability to deliver robust, high quality policy advice to enable the Mobility and Safety team to deliver its work programme. In particular, there is a high priority to deliver advice on a number of significant road safety policies in the first half of 2019.

Your role will be to provide policy and delivery leadership across one or two significant road safety policy projects, including undertaking complex regulatory analysis and developing innovative and practical policy solutions.

Why join our Mobility and Safety team?

We offer you the opportunity to:

  • demonstrate your policy, stakeholder and people leadership skills working on complex projects to improve road safety outcomes for New Zealanders
  • broaden the breadth of your policy experience - add mobility and road safety to your tool box (enhancing the drug-driving testing regime; developing options for tackling unsafe speeds; analysis of the impact of PTOM on wages and conditions are all on the output plan for delivery by June 2019)
  • develop new internal and external relationships - almost all projects underway or planned in this period have a strong engagement and consultation focus
  • be part of a collaborative team
  • work in a friendly environment, with opportunities galore to contribute to our important work and our culture.

If you would like to learn more about this role, please direct any questions to Brent Johnston, Manager - Mobility and Safety
