The Team: What we do

Our Anatomical Pathology Department is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician with a positive, helpful attitude to join us in our mission of providing a high quality service within our Histology laboratory.

Part of the Canterbury Health Laboratories and based on the campus of Christchurch Hospital, the Anatomical Pathology department is made up of a team of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Path Assistants, Pathologists, and Registrars.

You'll be working for the largest medical laboratory in the South Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre with a varied and challenging case load. We have a modern and well-equipped lab including a good range of specialist equipment.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Technician with current NZ registration (or eligibility to work towards). Our lab operates Mon-Fri 7am-6pm, hours of work to be negotiated within these hours.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Providing a high quality service to clients
  • Participating in the preparation of stained slides and the various laboratory procedures involved
  • Giving immediate technical assistance when required for urgent and frozen section cases
  • Assisting with various clerical tasks of the laboratory

  • The ability to work independently and under periods of pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a range of people from various backgrounds
  • Current, or ability to work towards, NZ Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand
