The Ministry of Transport provides strategic and practical advice to Ministers, monitors and supports the Transport Sector Crown Entities and works in partnership with the Transport Sector Crown Entities to ensure the transport system optimises its contribution to New Zealand Citizens. Vote Transport funds over $5b billion worth of public sector transport related expenditure.

This role is responsible for providing strategic financial advice to senior management and the Minister in relation to complex financial issues/arrangements. This includes monitoring and advising on the financial and funding elements of the Ministry and crown agencies within the transport sector. Other critical elements include, leading the enhancement of the financial management framework and capability within the Ministry.

This unique role provides exposure and input at the top level where key decisions are made. You'll be driving performance improvement initiatives, providing strategic advice at leadership level and implementing a high-performance Finance team culture and performance. Joining the dots and understanding complex scenarios will come naturally to you, and your positive and engaging style will allow you to influence key people across the business and the sector.

The ideal applicant would likely be someone who is looking to move into a senior Financial leadership position, like CFO, down the line. They could currently be managing parts of a finance team or a senior finance business partner but for a time, they want to remove themselves from day to day responsibilities to focus on upskilling in areas like; reviewing and analysing proposed initiatives costs, risks and benefits, reviewing and enhancing current operational models and financial frameworks, upskilling managers, undertaking funding reviews and long-term financial planning, to name a few.
