Fire and Emergency NZ has important work to do and we have an exciting opportunity for a policy generalist to help lead the work of a new Policy function within Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

About you

We are looking for a policy person who has demonstrated experience in senior advisory roles. You will have a proven ability to develop and maintain relationships and to work effectively with, and influence, a wide range of key stakeholders - from front line operational staff and technical experts, to our executive leadership team and board, as well as external agencies and stakeholders.

You will enjoy juggling multiple, varied, initiatives at any one time and you will help lead the work programme of the newly established policy function within the Organisational Strategy and Capability Development branch.

This will include working closely with other lead agencies on a wide range of policy issues that impact on Fire and Emergency NZ.

You will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in senior policy roles across a range of sectors
  • Strong machinery of government skills and experience
  • A range of cross-government agency experience
  • Excellent relationship, conceptual, analytical, organisational and communication skills - and a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Sound judgement and the ability to represent Fire and Emergency NZ in a variety of forums.
  • Experience at providing advice and recommendations to senior executives and government
