Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Senior Counter Fraud Advisor – Wellington
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is a highly specialised government department whose mission is to disrupt and deter serious complex fraud through prevention, investigation, and prosecution. We take pride in the work we do to keep New Zealand safe from fraud and corruption.
We employ a talented team of lawyers, forensic accountants, investigators, and electronic forensic, counter fraud and policy experts to do just that and, importantly, we have a small corporate services team that supports our operational teams. Numbering eighty, we are a cohesive team with a strong sense of justice and a vibrant culture.
About the Role
As part of the SFO's Counter Fraud Centre team, and reporting to our Principal Counter Fraud Advisor, you will apply your fraud, financial crime or risk management experience and work with stakeholders across the public sector to raise awareness and build capability in countering fraud and corruption. You will develop and deliver a range of counter fraud products and services, perform fraud capability and risk assessments, undertake control testing, and provide counter fraud advice to public sector agencies and other organisations. You will work in a highly collaborative team, take the lead on some initiatives and projects, and provide guidance to colleagues.
About you
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate and articulate your financial crime knowledge or experience, which may include the areas of integrity, risk management, compliance, policy, and investigations. You have likely had a career in consultancy-based risk advisory or risk management or assurance. Specific exposure to fraud prevention strategies, plans, processes, and interventions is essential. Having a comprehensive understanding of, and experience working in, or alongside, the New Zealand public sector is strongly preferred.
To be an effective senior advisor, you have proven capability to establish and maintain optimal stakeholder relationships and are an effective influencer and negotiator and you can speak with confidence. We are looking for someone who is an accomplished facilitator of large groups, with proven capability in the design and delivery of workshops, webinars and other learning formats.
You might have experience conducting research and in-depth analysis to identify fraud risks, evaluate patterns, and support the development of counter-fraud strategies. The ability to interpret complex information and present clear insights and actionable recommendations is highly desirable.
We are looking for a person with a compelling combination or all or many of the above experience and skills. If you're excited about the role and believe you can contribute to this important work, we encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet every requirement.
