Our National Education team is responsible for the development, procurement, oversight, quality assurance and review of education programmes, provided to learners across the Corrections estate.


The Senior Adviser role has responsibility for developing and managing a portfolio of education programmes and initiatives, and works closely with diverse groups within our organisation and with external service providers, to ensure our internal staff and external partners provide a suite of programmes that meet the needs of our learners and are consistent with best practice.


Education programmes need to meet the current and future needs of our learners, therefore this position offers the opportunity to make a difference by influencing at a national level, ensuring development of high quality, up to date, well- delivered programmes across our various sites.


Key accountabilities for the position include:

  • Identification of education and training needs, and recommendation of solutions to meet those needs
  • Development, implementation, management and monitoring of a portfolio of education activities,
  • Contract management,
  • Preparing and writing papers and briefings for senior leadership and Ministers
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Project Management and quality assurance of education practice and outcomes.
  • Contribute positively to team dynamics and culture


Imperative to your success in this position will be:

  • Your ability to leverage off your networks and experience in the tertiary education sector.
  • An understanding of the role digital learning plays in education would be desirable coupled with a working knowledge of the NZ Qualifications Framework, NZQA quality assurance processes and TEC funding processes.
  • Sound knowledge of foundation and vocational education coupled with a genuine interest in the needs of specific learner groups such as Women, Youth, Maori and Pacific people.


As this is a critical role, you will quickly establish relationships and credibility across the organisation and with our education providers, as well as an understanding of the educational needs of our learners, and initiatives currently in place.
