Job Description

Are you curious about how transport, and in particular the supply chain, can shape the future of New Zealand?

Or perhaps you are keen to join a highly productive, supportive, and fun policy team?

Whether you're a superstar in the making or have proven your merit in a senior capacity, this is a team you'll want to be part of. There's never been a more exciting time to work for the transport sector. As the government's chief policy adviser on transport, the Ministry has an important strategic leadership role. Key to this is thinking about the levers we have to deliver social, economic, environmental, and health and safety outcomes.

It's a great time to join the Ministry as we have some exciting, strategic pieces of work under way and/or about to enter new phases in the coming months.

You'll be joining a bunch of high-paced, motivated, professional and friendly people. The Ministry is responsible for advising the government on supply chain issues from a system perspective which includes advice on rail, freight and coastal shipping policies and how these modes alongside road transport can achieve Government transport and other policy outcomes.

As a senior you will draw on your cross-agency experience as you collaborate across the Ministry, other government agencies and with external stakeholders. Here, initiative and outstanding relationship skills will be key to your success.

Tertiary qualified with solid senior policy experience or exceptional success at advisor level, your ability to give strategic advice and analyse different options will be complemented by your outstanding written communication.

The Ministry of Transport is a unique place to work. We're a small, friendly agency, with a wide influence, where you'll be close to the action, and have plenty of opportunity to contribute and develop.

The salary band for this role is $88,386 - $124,781.

We encourage you to find out more by visiting our website or speaking with Erin Wynne, Director, Rail Transformation. To talk with Erin please call her on 021 810 636. To apply please submit your CV and cover letter at For any questions or further information, email
