We are seeking a technically skilled and proactive individual to support teaching, research, and commercial activities in Civil Engineering. Based within the School of Engineering, you will play a vital role in enabling hands-on learning and contributing to the successful delivery of academic and externally funded research projects.

This is a dynamic, hands-on position ideal for someone with a passion for engineering, precision, and collaborative problem-solving. Your expertise will help drive innovation and excellence across our educational and research programmes.

Salary will be based on the skills, knowledge, and experience you bring to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), primarily based at our Frankton satellite laboratory and the main Hamilton campus.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

You are a practical, safety-conscious professional with strong hands-on experience in civil or heavy engineering, construction, or workshop environments. You hold a relevant trade qualification or have equivalent practical experience and a higher-level tertiary qualification. Your ability to work independently and communicate effectively will enable you to support teaching and research activities productively.

You are confident working with tools, rigging, lifting, and scaffolding equipment, and you take pride in doing things properly and safely. Your solid troubleshooting and maintenance skills, combined with a proactive approach and attention to detail, make you a reliable and valued team member.

You bring:

  • A strong focus on health and safety
  • Practical problem-solving skills and technical know-how
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • ICT competence and confidence learning new systems
  • A full NZ driver's licence

Experience with CAD, construction material testing, lab work, or site supervision would be an advantage. You enjoy hands-on work, are adaptable, and are committed to continuous learning. Your support helps create safe, effective learning environments and contributes to student success.

The Division of STEM comprises three Schools (Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, and Science) and several research units, including the Artificial Intelligence Institute and commercial units.

The School of Engineering (Te Kura Mata-Ao) offers accredited BE(Hons) degrees in various disciplines, including Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Materials and Process, Mechatronic, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a graduate diploma in Engineering Management. Postgraduate options include taught and research Masters and PhDs. Key research areas include construction, infrastructure, structural engineering, energy, water, automation, robotics, sensing, electrical power systems, biomedical engineering, and materials.
