We are seeking an outstanding academic leader to advance Kaupapa Māori Psychology at the University of Waikato. As Ahorangi - Professor, you will provide strategic and scholarly leadership across teaching, research, and service, strengthening the University's commitment to mātauranga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
This is a pivotal role with responsibility for shaping the direction of Kaupapa Māori Psychology within the School and contributing to the University's national and international research profile. You will lead high-quality research programmes, mentor academic staff, and supervise postgraduate students.
We are currently recruiting across multiple academic levels within Kaupapa Māori Psychology. While this advert is for an Ahorangi/Professor, candidates may also wish to explore opportunities at Pūkenga Matua/Senior Lecturer or Pūkenga/Lecturer level.
Salary will be a minimum of $169,279 per annum at the entry point of the Professor salary range, based on skills, knowledge, and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

As an experienced educator you will hold a PhD in Psychology (or a relevant discipline) and bring a sustained record of research excellence with recognised national and international impact.
You will demonstrate:
- Exceptional academic leadership and mentoring capability
- Extensive experience in postgraduate supervision
- Deep expertise in Kaupapa Māori methodologies and mātauranga Māori
- A strong commitment to advancing Māori research and student success
- Proven success in securing research funding and leading research programmes
