Job Description

The West Coast DHB is launching a dedicated Community Rehabilitation Service. Want to be part of this great initiative?

There really is nothing like the wild beauty of the South Island's West Coast. From the glaciers in the south to Punakaiki and the Heaphy Track in the north. Greymouth has easy access to them all, with its shop lined streets, the Grey River, historic architecture, cosy cafes and soon to be, the site of a brand new hospital.

We're looking to recruit an Allied Health Assistant to join us in our mission of providing excellent client care. You'll be responsible for supporting clients in their rehabilitation activity delegated by your Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Nursing colleagues. Based in our Complex Clinical Care Network in Greymouth, you will be a key member of the team working across the West Coast district. You will be involved in the ongoing development of service delivery to those who would benefit from community based therapy including early supported discharge and prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions.

You will enjoy working in the community and may have experience in areas such as Community Support Work, Health Care Support/Assistance or other supporting roles. You will be a key participant in the community inter-disciplinary teams, as well as part of the Kaiawhina Allied Health Assistant workforce.

You will be a team player and keen to contribute to service development and community health initiatives. Your strong communication skills and client focused approach will see you build positive relationships with clients and a variety of agencies while supporting clients' independence and safety.

The ability to work in a team, communicate effectively and deliver excellent customer service will contribute to your success.

Previous experience in a healthcare setting, a First Aid certificate and some knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Privacy Act) will also be beneficial. Completion of the National Certificate in Health Assistant Rehabilitation Assistant Level 3 is desirable. If you do not have this qualification, the DHB will support you to gain it on commencement in this role.
