The School of Construction, Electrical, Plumbing and Automotive Trades is seeking to appoint a technician to support our carpentry certificate programmes.
About the role - Te Kaupapa
Key responsibilities include supporting the delivery of quality learning programmes within the school through managing class materials, tools and equipment, arranging purchase orders and tracking deliveries, maintaining supplier relationships, basic financial monitoring and delivery of equipment and resources for teaching programmes, as well as day-to-day manual tasks that allow the programmes to run smoothly for tutors and students.
This role includes management and preparation of workshops and building sites and may include assisting tutors in the classrooms, workshops and on site.
The primary work site for this position is intended to be the School of Construction campus in Petone; though kaimahi might also be required to work on other delivery sites, including the Whitireia Porirua campus.
About you
Key technical attributes for the role are a relevant carpentry trade qualification and broad industry experience. You will also have sound working knowledge of building compliance and legislative requirements and the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications (advanced level).
High level on-job communication skills are essential to this role. A forklift licence and health and safety training would be an advantage.
Applicants will be required to pass a Ministry of Justice criminal convictions check in order to work with young people and should hold a current driver's licence.
Essential knowledge and skills
The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and converse positively with a wide range of stakeholders including staff, students, and internal and external customers.
Essential personal attributes are leadership and self-management, initiative, and the ability to work well independently and within a team environment. The role also requires excellent self-management, time management and planning skills.
This position requires a degree of moderate/heavy lifting and other physical activities throughout the day. This role is suited for someone who is physically fit.
