Head of Treatment Maintenance and Automation (In-house) at Wellington Water, Wellington - Wairarapa

This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

The remuneration range for this role is $141,917 to $200,353 (including KiwiSaver) depending on skills and experience.

The opportunity

You will be part of the Network Management Group Leadership team with shared accountability for successful management of the Wellington Water networks.

The purpose of the position of Head of Treatment Maintenance and Automation (In-house) is to manage the asset maintenance, automation, and minor capital project delivery functions to support delivery of three waters services. This includes executing planned mechanical, electrical and automation maintenance and renewal activities, and ensuring 24/7 breakdown cover to maintain safe operation of treatment plants. You ensure that your team provides advice and technical support to Project Management Office and Major Projects, and condition and performance data to inform reporting and long term planning processes.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Relevant engineering degree or trade qualification, preferably Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent
  • 10 or more years experience with mechanical, industrial automation, telemetry or instrumentation equipment
  • Proven experience of working in a collective and collaborative leadership environment
  • Strong financial and budget management skills
  • In-depth expertise in water and wastewater treatment
  • Sound knowledge of treatment maintenance operations
  • Experience with developing and implementing new systems or technology

The ideal candidate will have strong stakeholder engagement skills and proven experience in implementing customer driven work practices.

About the team

The Maintenance and Automation team hold the responsibility of ensuring a resilient and secure water treatment network, and providing advice and technical support to Project Management Office and Major Projects. The Asset Maintenance team execute planned mechanical and facilities maintenance, and provide breakdown cover to maintain safe operation of treatment plants.The Automation team ensure continual high-quality automated performance of the treatment and distribution equipment enabling operation, monitoring, and reporting with minimal operator intervention. They install, operate and maintain this automation system (known as SCADA) and ensure it operates effectively today and into the future.
