Job Description

Te Whare Manaakitanga Special Treatment Unit, Rimutaka Prison
Vacancy Number: CSLNR7054

Do you enjoy a challenge? Do you want to make a real difference in peoples lives? Would you like to work within an innovative team providing psychological interventions to high risk offenders? Are you a Registered Psychologist with post graduate qualifications in Clinical or Forensic Psychology?

Yes? This could be the opportunity you are looking for.

Te Whare Manaakitanga (TWM) Special Treatment Unit (STU) is a purpose built rehabilitation facility based at Rimutaka Prison. As a Psychologist you will be co-facilitating an intensive cognitive-behavioural group treatment programme within a 'community of change' environment; designed to reduce the offending rates of high risk offenders.

In addition to group treatment, you will provide clinical and risk assessments, motivational interventions, psychological reports, administration, advice, supervision and training, and engage in professional development for yourself and your team.

You will be required to develop and maintain a close working relationship with custodial staff and work within the parameters of a secure prison environment.

Applications are invited from Registered Psychologists - with a specialty in Forensic or Clinical Psychology - who can demonstrate their knowledge and application of the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) Model, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Schema Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Our staff come from different backgrounds, cultures, education and experience – and together their purpose is to motivate and empower offenders to make positive changes in their lives, and so make our communities safer.

If you would like to discuss this position further, please contact Justine Croxen, Principal Psychologist on 04 529 0101.

Applications close on Sunday, 27 August 2017.
