Corrections' new Women's Strategy sets out a new approach for the way we manage women offenders.

 

Wahine – E rere ana ki te pae hou, means women rising above the horizon. The initiatives outlined in the strategy will help women rise above their past, be open to new opportunities, and create a better life for themselves and their whanau.

 

We are looking for highly skilled psychologists to help build women's strength and resilience while in prison. This will give women the strategies to create better futures for themselves, their children and wider whanau/family.

 

Initially, for the first 12 months your role will be focusing more on working with our wahine at the Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility (ARWCF).  You will also provide support and work across our Probation sites in the wider Manukau Region.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to use your clinical expertise and provide professional expertise and leadership in a diverse social service environment. Working within a scientist-practitioner framework, providing clinical services targeted to assist offenders develop skills to reduce re-offending is pivotal to this role.

 

Our psychologists undertake clinical assessments and treatment in prison and in the community, provide supervision, advice and training within Corrections and allied agencies, monitor the integrity of rehabilitation programmes and participate in service and research initiatives.

 

This professional role calls for someone who:

  • Is reliable with strong communication skills
  • Has a minimum of a Masters degree in Psychology (Clinical or Forensic Psychology and registration with the NZ Psychologist Board in the clinical/counselling and general scope of practice)
  • Is an excellent problem solver who can work across cultures
