Job Description

Registered Nurse

Location: Auckland Prison
Vacancy number: CSNR9546

Multiple opportunities available!!

  • 1 permanent full time role
  • 2 year fixed term role
  • 1 year fixed term role

Auckland Prison is New Zealand's only male maximum security prison with a capacity of 681 prisoners.

Auckland Prison is currently constructing a new facility designed to enhance care and rehabilitation initiatives and is due to open July 2018. This creates the opportunity to provide enhanced prisoner centric services to meet the varied and at times complex individual prisoner needs.

There will be a new large purpose built Central Health Centre which has modern consulting, treatment and clinic rooms. On each of the accommodations wings there is a primary care facility incorporating clinics and an area for dispensing medication.

Our model of care incorporates a proactive multidisciplinary approach to ensure every engagement counts.

While working closely with a range of health professionals including Mental Health, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Dentistry, General Practitioners and DHB services, the nurse led clinics are vital in providing a holistic health delivery service.

You will contribute to and deliver a comprehensive primary care nursing service in partnership with our external providers as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the prison setting.

You should be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding of health issues and treatment options relating to health and wellbeing. You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care within a secure environment.

You will be a qualified Registered Nurse with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever changing. You'll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourages new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service. If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

We have a permanent full time position, 2 year fixed term and 1 year fixed term roles available with rostered hours. No night duty is required but  an on call after hours service is provided and rostered.

Please specify on your Cover Letter which role you are applying for (permanent, 2 year fixed term or 1 year fixed term)

Applications close Wednesday, 20 June 2018.
