Our psychologists work across prisons and Community Corrections undertaking a wide range of tasks including:


  • Clinical assessments and treatment of a broad range of needs
  • Providing supervision and  psychological advice to other professionals
  • Delivering training
  • Undertaking applied research
  • Acting as Expert Witness to the courts


There are five Psychologist teams in the Northern Region, each offering unique opportunities.

The Taitokerau Psychologist Office has the smallest team of psychologists but covers the largest geographical area.  Based in the Bay Of Islands, the office covers from Kaitaia to Whangarei, with four community corrections sites and Northland Region Corrections Facility.

The North Auckland Psychologist Office is based in Auckland Prison, Paremoremo, which is New Zealand's only male maximum security prison. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference with some of the most challenging clients, and work in a new state of the art facility.

Do you enjoy long-term therapeutic work and have the skills for group-based therapy?


Te Piriti Special Treatment Unit is a purpose built rehabilitation facility based at Auckland Prison, Paremoremo. Te Piriti provides intensive group treatment within a ‘community of change' environment, designed to increase the desistance from re-offending among child sex offenders.

Do you enjoy fast-paced city life and prefer independent working across a range of sites?


The Central Auckland Psychologist Office is based in the heart of Auckland city and is accessible by public transport links. The team works in the country's largest and busiest remand prison at the Mt Eden Corrections Facility, but also provides the variety of covering community corrections sites in the central and west Auckland  areas.

Do you enjoy diverse work, but also want an opportunity to specialise in working with women?


Manukau Psychologist Office is based in vibrant South Auckland and provides the opportunity to work in New Zealand's largest female prison at  Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility. The team are engaged in new approaches to help women rise above their past, be open to new opportunities, and create a better life for themselves and their whanau.  Psychologists in the Manukau team also work across the community corrections sites in the ethnically diverse South Auckland area.

Applications are invited from Registered Psychologists with a minimum of a Master's degree in Forensic or Clinical Psychology.
