Job Description

Senior Advisor, Pastoral Care of International Students, Quality Assurance Strategy

  • Do you want to be part of a team that is influencing the experiences of international students while they study in New Zealand
  • Are you interested in international education and the well-being of students?
  • Do you enjoy working in a busy, dynamic environment?

NZQA administers the Education (Pastoral Care for International Students) Code of Practice 2016 (the Code) and has a team responsible for the Code.

The Senior Advisor has a varied role so to succeed you will:

  • provide technical and operational advice and guidance to schools and tertiary education organisations about implementing the Code, including through workshops and presentations
  • monitor and follow up on the performance of Code signatory education organisations under the Code
  • investigate complaints relating to the Code in schools
  • maintain NZQA guidance on all aspects of the Code

We are looking for an experienced, pro-active and enthusiastic person who is motivated to achieve results and provide outstanding service in a changing environment.

Your excellent communication and relationship management skills will enable you to work well with colleagues, schools, tertiary education providers, students, communities and education agencies.

NZQA is accountable for managing the New Zealand Qualifications Framework, administering the secondary school assessment system, independent quality assurance of non-university education providers, qualifications recognition and standard setting for some specified unit standards.

NZQA has a Te Reo Māori bilingual goal “Whakapakari” to be achieved in 2020.

To be successful in this role you should have in-depth knowledge of the Code 2016, experience working with international students in New Zealand, and hold a relevant degree. You will need to be able to travel within New Zealand from time to time.
