About the role
Make your mark (Tertiary Education Management)
The NZQA Quality Assurance Division (QAD) is responsible for ensuring the quality of non-university tertiary education organisations and the qualifications and programmes being delivered across New Zealand.
The role requires ongoing interaction with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including education providers, other agencies, and tertiary students, so you need to demonstrate advanced relationship management skills. The regulatory nature of the work means that you must be able to manage conflict well. In particular the role involves:
- the active management of risk cases
- engaging with students and providers on a day-to-day basis
- collaborating with other teams within NZQA
- actively liaising with relevant agencies.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you need strong analytical and investigative skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and collaboratively in a team environment.
The challenging compliance nature of the role means that it is subject to significant legal and media scrutiny. You must therefore have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, be highly organised and methodical, and able to deliver results at a consistently high level.
To succeed in this role you will thrive on the high workload and constant pressure, but will still be able to perform at a consistently high level. You will be required to undertake work that will impact on both students and education providers.
Knowledge of, or an interest working in, the New Zealand tertiary education sector and/or previous experience of regulatory work would be an advantage.
