Principal Advisor - Ministerial Services

Our new Ministerial Services Team services the whole organisation, with the aim of ensuring consistency and effectiveness of our official correspondence and reporting across all business areas.  We are building a high performing team which will use a combination of in-depth governance expertise and technical knowledge to deliver high quality and timely products and services to our internal and external customers.

We are looking for a well experienced Principal Advisor to provide advice and sound judgement in our high functioning Ministerial Services team.  You will have the opportunity to apply your subject matter expertise and experience to improve quality and delivery of correspondence products and help grow team capability. You will have a sound knowledge of the Official Information Act and Privacy Act legislation and Ombudsman Guidance and be a technical expert when it comes to official correspondence. You will be skilled at mentoring and coaching and will have the opportunity to use this and become the go-to person in the team. The environment is very busy with a huge breadth of activity. 

Key skills and experience we require include:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role, at a Principal level, with other government organisation(s)
  • Significant experience working with Ministerials and an in-depth understanding of the associated processes
  • Significant knowledge of and experience with compliance and legislation – a legal background is desirable but not essential
  • Experience working within government and a strong understanding of the machinery of government
  • Sound knowledge of legislation and guidance governing Official Information and Privacy Act requests
  • The ability to understand and anticipate risks and priorities across a large and varied organisation
  • Experience, skill and passion with coaching and mentoring to grow capability within the team and organisation
  • Proven experience in managing competing priorities and organising work in a complex demanding environment
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure
  • A curious mind, willing to share new ideas
  • Strong collaborative skills and the willingness to work across the organisation in a joined up approach
