  • Are you a highly motivated and experienced civil engineer with strong project management and interpersonal skills?
  • Do you thrive on achieving targets?
  • Are you a team player with the ability to influence and motivate others?

About us
At the Transport Agency, it all starts with our people. The organisation's performance and success depends on the people who choose to make this a great place to work and make a difference for New Zealand.

We are making large investments in critical projects and services to ensure a seamless transport system and to improve safety and enhance customer experience for all people and businesses using our roads. The work we do impacts directly on the lives of New Zealanders and the wider economy.

The Role

The New Zealand Transport Agency has an exciting position for an experienced civil engineer to join its project delivery team in Hamilton. The person will play a key role in the successful delivery of a varied programme of capital projects, ranging from multi-million dollar highways to rural intersections and cycle ways.

The role is multi-facetted, requiring strong leadership qualities to manage our suppliers' project teams, and involving close collaboration and engagement with other teams in the Transport Agency, local authorities, iwi, and a variety of stakeholders and development partners.  This is where your strong inter-personal skills will come to the fore.

What you will bring

As a Senior Project Manager you will have ‘big picture' thinking, ensuring that the forward work plan for the projects you are involved in contribute to the Transport Agency's vision of providing “great journeys to keep NZ moving”.

This role requires someone with a strong sense of what is needed to deliver projects to completion, along with strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to manage relationships while ensuring the best outcomes are achieved.  There will be some degree of travel, as you will be working on projects that are sometimes out of the immediate region.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • A collaborative working style, and a strong commitment and ability to work as part of a team
  • Solid experience, ideally in the delivery of linear infrastructure projects
  • A focus on health and safety, quality and the environment.
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with partners and stakeholders
  • An engineering qualification is desirable.
  • Project management experience within the transport sector is desirable, as is professional membership of Engineering New Zealand.

If you are passionate about making a difference, have the ability to influence and effect change, and want to work with committed, dedicated, friendly people, then we would like to hear from you.
